I don't know if the Doc Holliday in Mary Doria Russell's excellent novel is anything like the real Doc, but she has definitely given us a wonderfully complex character set in a fascinating historical time period. I liked it so much that I think I'll read it again, this time out loud with Garrett.

The scene near the end when he was playing the Emperor at the piano struck some kind of emotional chord in me that was totally unexpected.
