Blood, Bones and Butter

Blood, Bones & Butter: The Inadvertent Education of a Reluctant ChefBlood, Bones & Butter: The Inadvertent Education of a Reluctant Chef by Gabrielle Hamilton

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love reading chef memoirs, but this one is so much more. Gabrielle Hamilton writes not so much about how she became a chef or what it's like being a chef as about life and love. She went from an almost idyllic childhood to a highly dysfunctional adolescence and from all that emerged a tough, spirited, loving woman, mother, chef, and restaurateur. Her relationships with the most important people in her life are somewhat odd but always interesting. And her stories about time spent in Italy made me want to hop on the next plane.
